Meet Jacob
Who inspires you?
Some of my inspirations are Victor Wooten, Cliff Burton, John Myung and David Ellefson.
Something you do where time flies.
I like to mess around on my bass and play pretty much any kind of music.
What brings the best in you?
Listening to music brings out the best in me and really helps me through the day.
What would be an ideal day for you?
I sleep for a long time, then I get up and realize I didn’t sleep enough. After that I go back to bed for a while then get up, play music, hang out with friends or something like that.

THE artist
Why music?
Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. It is a way of expression that I take joy in every day. It is also a very challenging thing and can take years of studying and you won't be anywhere near a master.
What are your songs about? What specific themes do they cover?
My songs are about self expression and motivation. They usually cover a wide variety of themes, but I usually like a inspiring theme mixed with some killer riffs.
What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
Mostly metal. I take influence from bands such as Tool, Metallica, Dream Theater, Stratovarius, Megadeth, Slayer, and Helloween.
Where have you performed? Do you have any upcoming shows planned?
I have performed in my room, at school, and at a few auditoriums in the school band.
What has been your biggest challenge? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
My biggest challenge is conveying my ideas clearly, because I have a lot of good ideas for songs. it is often hard to explain as I tend to write weird time signatures like 8/8 and 5/4.
Describe a moment where music changed you.
When I first started listening to metal. I was a fairly beginner musician but the fast and complex riffs in metal songs drove me to be a much better musician.
What are currently your main artistic challenges?
I listen to a lot of music and can come up with some good riffs, but blending riffs together is one of my weak points which I still need to work on. Being a bass player there are many things which I don’t do that is left to the guitars and drums so I can only really do so much for any given song.
What inspires you?
Music. Jazz, blues, metal, rock - I like it all.
What do you want people to know about your music?
Don’t stereotype music, at least give it a chance before you toss it. Metal isn’t all screaming and rage, there is beautiful metal too.
What is the your objective by the end of the school year?
Become a better musician and have some experience in the field of producing songs.
